ALL ABOUT ME

Hi, I am Emma-Gene Nel.

I'm Emma, a Pretoria-based South African wedding, engagement, lifestyle, and landscape photographer. I go all around the country to document love stories. I look at photography as a form of visual storytelling. I love capturing natural, spontaneous moments of laughing, pleasure, and connection. I love capturing moments of people because it reminds me of how beautiful life is.

My Journey

2017-2019

  • I picked up my first camera in 2017 and fell in love with photography.

  • During 2017-2019, I captured the small details of life, and I decided to start my business by creating my photography page.

2020-2022

  • I started studying photography and graphic design at Open Window Institute in 2020 and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication degree, double majoring in photography and graphic design.

  • My photography business became a part-time job during my degree, and I photographed my first wedding in 2021.

  • In 2022, I also won the Pangolin Award (Open Window's Award) for the Best Photographic Artist Book called "Sonnie".

2023

  • In 2023, I decided to push my photography further by doing my Honors degree in Visual Communication, majoring in Photography, to pursue an academic career in the future.

  • I also won the Pangolin Award (Open Window's Award) for the most experimental honours work, and my work was also the second runner-up for the best honours work. My honours work was called "The Family Photo Archive".

2024

  • I am excited for 2024 and decided to pursue my photography business full-time. I am also excited to create your golden memories
  • MY WHY

My profound appreciation for photography stems from its unique ability to capture the intricacies of small details, the enchantment of golden moments, and the significance of big memories.

This art form enables me to perceive elegance in small nuances, seize fleeting emotions, and preserve the magnificence of life's defining moments. My chosen method is to capture tangible memories and communicate the enchantment inherent in the mundane.

  • WHY ME

My keen eye for detail and ability to transform ordinary scenes into lasting visual stories align perfectly with my vision of preserving cherished moments. I see photography as a skill and a way to infuse storytelling into special occasions, creating timeless images you would cherish forever.

  • WHAT I LOVE

Obviously, I love love love photography, but I also love very strong coffee, rainy days, the winter, my English bulldog Luna, the see en 'n lekker Sondag middag slaapie x
